![]() Samantha sees that Ophelia puts on a spell for Darrin to dismiss Larry for the evening. Sam realizes that there is something fishy going on, and pops in to see what is up along with Endora. ![]() Ophelia's plans have been foiled, and she soon attempts to remedy it, by putting a spell on Darrin to stay in the room, even after going over all of the possible questions. While Ophelia is getting some drinks, Darren calls Larry to come over as well, since he doesn't feel comfortable being alone with her. With that, Ophelia is invited into Darren's room. Ophelia met him outside the door and asks if he could run through some possible questions she will receive at the television interviews in the morning. Ophelia then zapped up a waiter from the hotel to knock on Darren's door and ask if he ordered a nightcap. Samantha is a little suspicious about this fog report, and Endora suggests to Samantha that fog is not the reason Darrin is not coming home. Darren calls Samantha and tells her that he will get away as soon as the fog lifts. However, Ophelia puts a spell on the owner and Larry Tate (David White) into forcing Darren to be there.ĭarrin then decides to take a late plane back, but the unrelenting Ophelia disguises herself on the phone as an airport manager, informing him that the airport is closed due to fog. It is Darren's intention to spend time with Samantha on their eighth anniversary of their first date. Ophelia does as much as possible to get Darren to come to a sales convention in Albany, even faking stage fright. During the photoshoot, she knocks it out of the park, acting exactly as a cat, which wins her the job immediately. In the next scene, Ophelia has been transformed into a beautiful woman, and arrives at the advertising agency to get the job as the Tom Cat Tractor girl. Endora is up to her old tricks of testing Darren's fidelity to her daughter Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery), and she summons Ophelia to help her out. Ophelia is first seen in the arms of Endora (Agnes Moorhead) in the form of a siamese can familiar. Ophelia (Julie Newmar) is a familiar in the 1971 episode "The Eight Year Itch Witch" for the TV series "Bewitched".

![]() You would expect Akame to be one of the most important characters of the show. Now considering the show has Akame's name in the title. Shelle the klutz, Leone the "Onee-san" type, Lubbock the perverted guy, and Akame, the cold assassin. You have Mine the tsundere, Bulat the "Aniki" type. The other characters in Night Raid don't fare much better either. Something we see in pretty much any other male lead for a stereotypical shounen. He's strong, kind, and has a great sense of justice. Tatsumi isn't really much different from other stereotypical male leads. The characters in the show are filled with problems too. It is scenes like this that make me unable to take the show very seriously. ![]() This was supposed to be a very emotional scene but then Night Raid kidnaps Tatsumi and makes petty jokes along the way. Probably the best example of this would be a scene where Tatsumi finds out about the corruption in the capital and mourns over his loved ones that died to this corruption. Apparently someone thought it was a good idea to slide in a petty joke in many emotional or dramatic scenes. (Though I admit most of the humor was stale) but rather the execution. Probably one of the more prominent problems in Akame ga Kill is the comedy. Akame ga Kill tries to be different show with it's dark theme, but looking at it closer there isn't much difference. You have almost all of the female characters fall for the protagonist. You have the naive yet strong protagonist that powers up over time. You have characters always blurting out the obvious. But when you look a little bit deeper Akame ga Kill is actually pretty similar to other stereotypical shounens. On the surface Akame ga Kill does seem to be different from other shounens because of it's dark theme and excessive gore. After certain events he is recruited by Night Raid, A group of assassins that wish to overthrow the government and end this corruption. ![]() But after reaching the capital he soon realizes exactly how corrupt the capital is. him the capital is a place filled with opportunities and a happy life. The story follows Tatsumi, a countryside boy that travels to the capital to join the military and earn money to send to his village suffering from poverty. To The problem is that many anime studios get so hung up with making the show as badass and dark as possible that they forget about the more important problems that might plague the show, like character development and pacing.Īkame Ga Kill is a great example of this problem. Many people automatically think the show is deep and thought provoking. One misconception in the anime industry is that when a show is dark and contains excessive amounts of gore. While it may follow some typical tropes of a biopic (the "rise and fall" structure), nonetheless, the sleekness and universal strength of everyone and everything in this project make it rise above those shortcomings into something truly worthwhile. As social commentary, despite being set a few decades back, the film is frighteningly current in its issues and its ideas. Finally, let's not forget Giamatti, in his second Oscar-worthy performance (first being in "Love & Mercy") of the year, who gives a performance just as emotionally investing and captivating as that of Mitchell's, particularly when the two are having a heart-to-heart.Īs entertainment, "Straight Outta Compton," for this past summer, is unmatchable in its level of fun and human interest. Mitchell is the tender and enigmatic one, someone who isn't easily defined, has trouble rapping and performing occasionally, but someone who also comes with big ideas for the group he knows, loves, and wants to make huge. is the backup to all the characters in the film whenever they need it. Eazy-E was a character I wasn't really expecting to see developed as much as he was, but with the writing at hand and Jason Mitchell's emotionally potent and tender performance, he becomes the standout in a sea of great acting.Įach actor brings something to the table here Jackson, Jr.'s aggression is unmatched, particularly in a telling scene involving Priority Records, Hawkins is the conviction and the even-tempered soul through all this madness, Hodge is the wit and the sporadic humor of the group, and Brown, Jr. ![]() From Gray's assured direction, it continues with the performances, all of which unanimously strong. We see the incredible charisma and charm of these five men, we hear their hard-hitting lyricism and their strong production, and we feel their simultaneous pride for their city and condemnation of its flaws, such as systemic racism and discrimination. "Straight Outta Compton," again, much like the music of N.W.A., hooks you with its bravado and swagger. Gray and company don't mess around in detailing the sure power and magnitude of this group through concerts, riots, and nationwide recognition, and they do so in a manner that's investing from the very first time the group is questioned by police for doing nothing wrong. in a manner that, while all-encompassing, gets to the heart of each emotion and the significance of every conversation. He and writers Jonathan Herman and Andrea Berloff work to capture the major events in N.W.A. Gary Gray directs this film with complete conviction. Armed with the guidance of acclaimed music producer Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti) and their desire to rap the truth and the strength of street knowledge, "Straight Outta Compton" details the rise of the group in addition to subsequent beefs, contract battles, and multiple tragedies that faced the talented young men in their prime.į. went from a Compton area bunch to a nationwide supergroup in what seemed to be overnight. Dre (Corey Hawkins), and Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell), in addition to the lyrical and producing talents of MC Ren (Aldis Hodge) and DJ Yella (Neil Brown, Jr.), N.W.A. Featuring the lyrical talents of Ice Cube (O'Shea Jackson, Jr., son of Ice Cube and a spitting image of his father), Dr. was a rap group predicated on detailing their harsh reality and controversial opinions in a brutally honest manner. ![]() Comprised of five talented, street-smart young men, N.W.A. This portrayal only fits that of N.W.A.'s music and character. It hits us in the face and stomps on the audience hard, as if its strapped with brass knuckles and decked out in the latest Nikes, portraying the race relations in Los Angeles as they were - ugly and disgraceful. is to get us angry at the injustice that occurred in the 1980's and 1990's and remind us that this kind of hate still frighteningly occurs today. Gary Gray's biopic on the acclaimed, pioneering rap group N.W.A. ![]() I may not have ever experienced racial injustice in my life, but I was at least aware of racial double standards at a young age. Songs like "Straight Outta Compton" and "F*** the Police" were ingrained in my head, and I remember especially finding telling social relevance in the line, "searchin' my car, lookin' for the product - thinking' every n**** is sellin' narcotics" from the latter song despite being so young. My mother would play one of her brother's personally mixed CDs, filled with novelty songs, parodies, and vulgar rap songs I probably shouldn't have been heard at such a tender age, in car rides with me.
